Simi is coming out of her studio, she finds Deji outside, as she tries to avoid him, he sees her and runs towards her "I'm so sorry, please hear my side of the story" "there is nothing to hear, she literally insulted me and you did nothing about it" she said "Kate is my ex, she cheated, i couldn't take her back so she went berserk and has made my life miserable since then" he said "then take care of it, it shouldn't concern me" Simi said "I'm trying, i can't do it alone, if she sees I'm serious with you, she will back off" "Serious with me? Are you fricking kidding me! I told you I'm not ready" "I love you Simi, I know it is too soon, but I don't care, feelings just come, we don't say when it happens" he said "Deji, please, I'm sorry, first the age, now Kate, i don't want this" she said "whenever you decide, I'm here, always, remember that" he walks away. ........................................................................................................... Kate walks into the club, she sees Olika arranging the drinks, "What is it? You wanted to see me" she said " yup, so what's up" "I'm good, but that's not what you want to talk about" she said "Let's sit first" they sit "Look Kate, I'm a guy, so let me be straight with you, you've got to let Deji be, you hurt him, he will never get over it, you will find the right guy for you, Deji's mind is somewhere else" Olika said "So you support his decision of dating older women, well that trend is taking over just like bleaching, you have no idea how my friends make fun of me, i can't believe this is coming from you Olika, where went your principles?" "Look, relax, to be honest she doesn't even look her age and she is very beautiful" Kate gives him a surprise look "I'm sorry i deviated from the actual conversation, but when a guy says it is over, it is really over, staying around, you are just like an obstacle, one day you will move for what will be! Think about it, I'm really busy right now, so later" he stands to continue with his work "I can't believe this is happening, everyone is saying the same thing, i rather die than stay alive to watch Deji in the arms of another" she leaves. ....................................................................................... Sometimes we go out of our way to hurt people that really care for us, and when we eventually see them happy, we make it a priority to take that away, no matter what you do, just know that at the end, they survive, and you end up living with that frustration all your life. Deji is in the club, taking notes and at the same time distracted with his phone, the owner Olika, who is also his friend decides to ask what the problem is "Guy,what's up, what is going on?" "It is Simi, she is not picking my calls' Deji said "And why? What happened?" Olika said " apparently, Kate showed at the premiere, accused Simi of stealing her man, then over emphasized on her being older" "dude, that is so bad, well if that is the problem, i will like to date Simi, but unfortunately, I'm in a relationship" Olika said "Guy, you are not helping matters, what should i do, I can't get her off my mind" "then go after her" "I have, she told her workers not to let me in" Deji said "Try harder, as for Kate, i need to have a word with her" olika said "please do man, I just wish she gets the 'IT IS OVER!". .................................................................................................................. Mandy walks into Mike's office "you have something for me" she sat down "you seem a bit over the edge" Mike said "Don't worry, nothing i can't handle, so, what's up" "I have done some research and narrowed down like 50 companies in Nigeria with a triangle logo, factories, breweries, mills, pharmacies, shipping companies, could really be difficult" he passes her a file, she looks at it" so, nothing for now" she said "yes, you are over working yourself with this, let the police do their job, Mandy's phone rings "Hold that thought, hello...who is this" "This is Dave Williams, you saw me earlier today at the restaurant" "What? How did you get my number? She said "Question for another day, you interest me, I want to take you out on a date" "Oh, really, you stole my number and you expect me to go on a magical date with you? Be a man ask me for the number, for now, I'm not interested" "You will be, i always have my way" he said "And how will that put food on my table" she said "It sure will, on the dinner table,will pick you up, catch ya" he hangs up "He didn't just, what a douche" Mandy said "who is that?" Mike said " someone who clearly doesn't know Mandy, keep digging, i will see you later" she leaves. .......................................................................................................... Seems like Mandy hasn't forgotten about the Chief's death, and really wants to get to the bottom of it, but with Dave on the line, that means double trouble, well as they say, don't play with fire, you will always get burnt. The girls are at their favorite restaurant, chatting and busy with their meal "so i decided to go completely vegan, no meat,no milk, no animal product, just vegetables" Ego said "Really? I rather be an animal than a vegetable, veg is good, but animals are essential" Tamuno said "Trust me, she is bluffing, in three seconds, my chicken parts will arrive and Ego will want some, right about now" Mandy said, the waiter brings her order immediately "Okay, I quit vegan, can I have that?" The girls laugh at her, Simi just stares at her phone for few minutes and drops it back "Earth to Simisola" Mandy said "You seem distant" Tamuno said "No, I'm not, just distracted" Simi said "Have you spoken with him? Mandy said "Who?" "Deji!" They chorus "Oh! That, nope, don't want to, never will" Simi said "but it is eating you up" Ego said "You all need to learn from me, I'm the oldest, i don't give a shit about any man, what can he give? Headache and nothing, he can't even woo me, I'm too hard to be wooed" Mandy said, a young tall, dark and handsome young man walks up to them "Excuse me, ladies, i must say I was really hungry but my appetite disappeared immediately i saw you ladies, I'm Dave Williams" he said as he extended a handshake " Well, nice meeting you, Dave, but we are all anonymous" Mandy said,they look at her in shock "Apart from celebrities and their bogus way of naming their kids, I know you all ain't anonymous" he said "You haven't met our parents yet" "Don't mind her, I'm Ego, that's Tamuno, Simi and she is Mandy" Mandy gives her a fierce look "Hmm, Mandy, I prefer the anonymous instead, easy with the chicken parts to avoid developing a saggy body let's say 30years from now, nice meeting you all, ladies" he leaves to another table "I think he just wooed you" Simi said to Mandy, who is speechless with random thoughts going through her mind. ................................................................................................................ Mandy wakes up to the knock on her door, she opens it to find her mother outside "I wan go, if you get anything you go give me" she said "Mother, I didn't mean that, please, stay" Mandy said " No worry my dear, na my fault, e dey difficult this days to find correct guy wey go take care of you, no mind me, I dey use you make mouth for Ado" Mandy gives her a hug "Don't worry, when next you come around, i will call Ego to stock the house with different types of soup, okay" Mandy said "Okay my daughter" her mother said smiling "just wait for me, i will take you to the bustop" Mandy goes in to freshen up. .................................................... The girls are in Tamuno's house, having their usual night out " So when she called her Oluwabolaji, i was like WTF!!" Ego said laughing "Dummy, my name is Mandy Bola Lawson, what is the full name of Bola, Bole?' Mandy said "Don't mind Ego, you always pick on her so she has found something to pick on you" Tamuno said "Why are you quiet Simi" "Uhh, nothing" Simi said "Is it affiliated to Demi" Mandy said "What is Demi?" Tamuno said "Deji + Simi" Ego said " Well, whatever it was, it is over" Simi said " What happened" Ego said "Well apparently, a girl walked up to me at the premiere and accused me of stealing her younger boyfriend, I should stick to older men who will settle for my age" "what? She said that? That girl is lucky i would have taught her a lesson she won't forget in a hurry" Mandy said "So Deji has a girlfriend? Men" Ego said "Have you heard his side?" Tamuno said "I've been ignoring his calls, don't care" "Good for him, that is why i hate small boys" Mandy said "Let's forget about them, his loss, your gain, let's not spoil tonight" Tamuno said. ...................................................... Mandy drives into her house, a car is packed outside her gate, a man inside picks up his phone and dials a number "Yes boss, i have located the house, her name is Mandy Lawson, legal owner of Lawson and associates" he said. ..................................................... Most times in life, we try to be with what only makes us happy, but what happens when they turn out to make us sad? Or when we are been watched? Or when danger is unknown? Mandy opens her door to find Ego standing outside "Who needs Ego's catering services?" Ego said "Shut up and get inside" "if you bully me, i will turn my back and leave" "Sorry, come in" Mandy said. Ego walks into the living room "Aunty Charity, welcome" "Ah, thank you my dear" "Mother, what will you eat, Ego will prepare it" Mandy said "Ah, fine girl, don't mind this my daughter, i go chop amala, ewedu with big turkey on top am" she said "Alright done, you are paying me, right?" Ego said to Mandy "We will sort it out" they enter the kitchen. ................................................... Charity is done with the food, she enters the living room to thank Ego "Ah, my dear, dey food sweet well well, if Oluwabolaji sabi cook, i no go get problem with her" she said "thanks ma, Oluwabolaji? Is that your name?" Ego said laughing, Mandy just stared at her "Yes o, na the name wey I give my pikin, Joseph come carry Maggi or wetin I no sabi give am" "You mean you gave me after you dumped me with my father" Mandy said "Even if na dumping you call am, Joseph people no gree make he marry me, they come carry you go, he come spoil you finish, plenty girls wey dey your age don marry, my pikin still dey for this big house alone" "Okay, will be on my way now, I will call you later, Mandy" Ego stands up and leaves "What did you say, mother?" "Your sister, don marry she get two pikin now, you still be my child na why i still the visit you" Charity said "And those you claim to be married, why doesn't their husband take care of them, I take care of the entire family including you, you all should be grateful for that, now I won't have you come to my house and insult me, pack your bags, you are going back to Ado-Ekiti tomorrow" ................................................ Simi and Deji are coming out of the cinema "i hope you enjoyed the movie" Deji said "Yes i did, especially the part where the prince saved the day" Simi said smiling "Hmmm, you love Prince Charming, you should have been Cinderella, your blond look, fits perfectly" he said, suddenly a young girl walks up to them "Deji?, wow what are you doing here?" She said, Simi stares at Deji "Oh, Kate, you came" he said embarrassed "Yes, I did, you expected me not to show up, after i got tickets for both of us and you declined? So all this is because you now go for something bigger than you" she said looking directly at Simi "Excuse me?" Simi turned to look at Deji "Look Kate, stop this, it is a public place for Christ sake" he said "oh, now you know it is a public place, I know you" she points at Simi "You are the owner of the make-up studio, Glitter, on Victoria Island, so you have decided to join the trend of older women and younger guys? Deji is my man, do yourself a favour, back off, because I'm going to fight for him"she said Simi stood perplexed for a minute, then walks away "Simi Simi, please wait" Deji tries to call her back "you have no shame, why are you calling her?, didn't you see any campus girl to mess around with" "Look Kate, i have told you before and i will say it over and over again, there is no us, it is over, i don't want you in my life anymore, please leave me alone" he runs after Simi "Lies, that is a lie, me, Kate, you can't dump me, I say when it is over, nonsense!". ............................................. No matter how we try or fight or push ourselves into peoples lives, we should always learn that it will never bring the person closer, rather it pushes the person away. What the heck was that, l can't breathe, this is lethal" Mandy covers her nose "No be your fault, cook food you no go cook, how you expect make e smell nice, when you carry me go that kpeshe i no sabi wetin them put inside the banga" she complains "what sort of problem is this, can't i just rest in this house? If you want to eat! Go to the market i will give you some money so you can cook for yourself, easy" "ah, that one no go dey possible o, i no fit use that thing u keep for kitchen" Charity said "it is called gas, mother" "anything you like make you call am, i no dey touch am" she folded her hands "okay, you want some chocolate? Mandy goes to where she is, and drops the chocolate on her laps "well, have some" she storms out of the room "see as Joseph spoil this my pikin chai, Oluwabolaji o" she unwraps one chocolate and puts into her mouth "ah this thing sweet well well o"...................................................... I hate women, they like being unnecessarily cranky, we will really miss Dr Jacobs" she said "Ehn, what of your boyfriend abroad, do you normally hear from him? he said "How e take concern you, you meddling plasma, mind yourself" "I'm your person na, tell me" he said "he is fine, we talk, Skye, he couldn't come back" "I envy him o, having such a fine and intelligent girl as a girlfriend, when will it be my turn?" he said "Get away, you foolish boy, womanizer, if you like don't settle down" she said as he stands to leave "Abeg let me check the patient that had a hyena operation yesterday, we will see later" he leaves as Tamuno continues with her work. ............................................................... "Noo, not a date, as two friends" he said "hmmm, alright, I love a great flick" she said "ahh thank God," Simi's phone rings "Hello.....yeah...okay just tell her to be patient, I will be there" "what is it?" he said "My top client is getting married today, I sent my girls but she demanded I do the make up, so I gotta run" "What about the movie premiere?" he said "Will be back in time" she said. .......................................................................... Mandy walks into the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee, only to find her mum searching the place "Well, good morning, mother and what is going on?" Mandy said "This your kitchen just dey empty, na only coffee you get? Wetin you go chop this morning?" Her mother said "Well, I will fry myself some prawn crackers and take it with my coffee, problem solved, hope you will love it" Mandy said "Eh? Praw wetin? So na wetin you dey do eh? Oluwabolaji, you just dey starve yourself, see as you dey like lepa, you no fit chop wetin go give you body and energy" she said "Look, you are driving me nuts, okay, what do you want to eat?" "I wan chop banga soup with correct catfish and semo, na wetin dey hungry me" she said "Okay, dress up, we are going out" Mandy said "Eh, you want make I chop outside? Why you no wan cook am?" "I can't cook the soup, if you want to eat, you have to eat outside" Mandy said "Hey! Epa mi o, so na how Joseph train you? He come spoil you finish, big girl like you, simple banga dey hard you, Olorunmaje....me wey be Charity your mother you no dey do like me at all, i sabi cook everything" "Please, that's enough, if you want to eat, you come along or else no food for you, end of story" Mandy said as she left the kitchen ............................................................................. DOWN THE MEMORY LANE

Happy New Month dear readers, I wish you all great and abundant blessings. I'm thrilled to take you on this exciting journey down the memory lane of Lame Red. So pull up a chair, it is going to be a fun roller coaster. ******************************* Episode one started with us getting to know the main characters of the book, and in the long run, we witnessed the dissapointment Simi had, when she found out that the guy she has been with for nine years, is HIV/AIDS positive, not just on her wedding day, but at the altar. We met the character of Chief Dede Badmus, a child trafficker and we later met his demise, which also left a trail of unanswered questions behind. We also met Deji who got under Simi's radar. Well, the question is, what more will we meet, questions or answers? How close are we to what really happened to Chief Dede Badmus? Is the connection between Simi and Deji going to end well or bad?
